Orlando... we've made it!

We have made it to Orlando! In fact, we are ending our second week here right now. Some days it feels like we never really left 7 years ago and other days we feel like we are really just only on vacation. Our first week here Brian's parents and sister Michelle were with us. Brian's Dad helped Brian build a new bathroom cabinet. His Mom and Dad made the move with us from KY to FL, a nearly 15 hour drive. We made it in two days. Then they helped us get all the boxes & furniture moved in. We were even able to spend a day with them at Disney World. We went to Epcot and Hollywood Studious and rode the new ride Everest Expedition it was great!

Two days after they left Brian and I started our first day of work here at the Ronald McDonald house. In no time we were oriented as we received several on call "calls". One including a guest with some abdominal pains, who called 911. It was nearly midnight and I was downstairs in the house letting 8 firemen and 2 EMT's in to administer care. Needless to say it wasn't a quiet night and Brian and I now feel completely initiated!

My Mom & sister, Julia came into town this past Monday. They were great help! While we were at work they cleaned our kitchen and re-organized the dishes, rearranged our entire living room to make better use of the space, and went grocery shopping and filled our fridge. It was quite a nice surprise to come home to. It was so good to see them too, as it has been since Thanksgiving that we saw them last! We hope to make the 6 hour trip to see them in GA sometime in the next three months.

Brian begins his new job at the Seminary on Monday. He is both excited & nervous. They are having a big welcome lunch for him and then he will begin his duties. I am sure he will blog more about his position as he gets started with work there.

Yesterday we enjoyed a poolside day, as we spent the afternoon at Disney Resort Caribbean Beach pool. We packed a picnic lunch and swam for a few hours. Then walked around downtown Disney, before heading back to our place. Today we plan on going to Wet-n-Wild, there are some extra tickets lying around the house that need to be used. The perks of our job! We often get theme park tickets donated and they have to be used before they expire, most guest don't have time to take advantage of them. That's were we come in!

As for now I am going to focus my attention on the position here at the Ronald McDonald House. However, I am staying up to date on both Disney & Universal auditions. A part time job at one of the theme parks would be a lot of fun!

Thanks again to all of our Wilmore friends who helped us make the move and pack up! We had so much help that it only took 30 minutes to get the whole apartment packed. We miss you all! Those that are still there, don't forget to take advantage of our tomato plants. When we left they were full of green tomatoes, my guess is that they are probably ripe by now. It's hard to believe that the next time we get up there our whole building may be gone!

I hope you all summers are going just as well. We will continue to keep you posted! God bless!

4th or July and...The Final Countdown

My day yesterday began with the vocal selections of Melanie singing "I'm proud to be an American," while trying to rouse me out of bed. Needless to say that Melanie enjoys singing me awake in the morning. Which I will agree is much nicer that the beep beep beep of an alarm clock. I was excited to get up, as I realized that today was the Wilmore parade. I have been very excited the past few weeks about the Annual Wilmore Lawnmower Parade. Here is a video below. Now the only downside was that it was raining. But the faithful lawnmower brigade would not be stopped.

Later in the day we got together with our friends Adam and Kate Vodicka and Brandon and Kelli Dasinger for some 1/3 pound hamburgers. They were huge! We wandered over to see the fireworks shot of by local railroad tycoon RJ Coreman. We were a good distance from the fireworks so we could not hear them well but still had a great view. Though this display is still rather tame compared to the fireworks at our new home (Disney World).

Things are really coming together for our move to Orlando. I interviewed for and was offered a position with the Seminary. I (Brian) will be the Admissions Recruiter at the Florida campus. I am really looking forward to the job. I will get to talk to prospective students who come by the campus interested in pursuing God's call in their lives. I will also be traveling to various conventions, conferences, and Wesley Foundations talking about Asbury. I think this will be a great experience. I really think highly of Asbury, our degrees, faculty, staff, etc. When I do travel it should be in the Florida, Georgia, and Alabama territory primarily. Even better is that Melanie is welcome to accompany me. We are looking forward to some financial stability that will allow Melanie to go after her entertainment opportunities while allowing us to continue to pay off debt and save. More updates on the job as the come.

Melanie has here 2nd Theatre Camp this coming week. She will have the middle and high school kids. Right now she is working though potential scripts for the show on Friday. We hope to be able to come back in the summers to Wilmore to do theatre camps. Its funny because most people go to Florida for summer vacations. We hope to head north. Ha! we are so weird.

So, as of today we have 9 days in Wilmore. We are excited by somewhat sad. Melanie and I realized that Broadhusrt has been our primary residence since we were married (1.5 years). We only lived married in Valdosta for 7 months. Believe it or not we will actually miss our 476 square foot "efficiency" apartment. We are excited about moving into the Ronald McDonald House with a washer/dryer (free) and dishwasher. Broadhusrt has been a great time. We were able to meet some great people and make some great friends in the process. This will certainly be hard to do in Florida. It is hard to match the community feel of a small town. But, next Saturday we pack the Peneske. Then, Monday we will head out. My (Brian) parents will be flying in to help us get to Florida. And so, the caravan goes south again...

Will we ever settle? We sure hope so, one day!

Click here to link to the artical on Melanie in the Jessamine Journal paper. One of the reporters came out to the camp and wrote a great story on Melanie, Sasha, and the kids. Enjoy!!
